Bali Events And Festivals To Await This Month Of May

Bali has been a favorite of many vacationers, local and foreign alike. The island paradise boasts of a natural beauty that can really attract anybody. Its resorts offer different beach activities that are very unique and special. Bali Villas also provide the comfort of home and the services and amenities of luxurious living. Its people are also very warm and hospitable.

However, these are only a part of Bali’s true beauty. More than the kiss of nature, Bali is a place where festivals and events happen all year round. Examples of these include the Bali Arts Festival, Kite Festival, Kartini Day, Negara Bull Races, Independence Day, Melasti, and Nyepi. It also celebrates the Kuningan Ceremony, Galungan, and Pager Wesi.


Bali vacations are also a must since this coming month of May, several Bali festivals will be celebrated. One of these is the National Awakening day. Hari Kebangkitan Nasional is a public holiday in Australia celebrated every 20th of May. It marks the principles of Indonesian state philosophy. This event is hosted by the government offices and Indonesian schools.

There is also the Rice Harvest Festival from May 1st to June 30th. It celebrates the end of the harvest season and is celebrated in various places in Bali. Visitors are welcome to join in the festivities and are even invited to try out the regional cuisines prepared in honor of the rice god, Dewi Sri.

Every May and December each year, the Galungan Ceremony is celebrated. The celebration symbolizes the victory of virtue, Dharma, over evil, Adharma. During the celebrations, Balinese people believe that all Balinese gods descend to earth to celebrate with them.

The Kuningan Ceremony is also celebrated the same time as the Galungan Ceremony. Yellow rice is offered and the temples are beautified. This is to bid farewell to the gods during this ten day event. The celebration also signifies the end of the New Year holiday. Hatha Yoga, traditional dances, and musical performances can be witnessed during this 5 day event held at the grounds of the Bali Purnati Center for Arts in Batuan near Ubud.

The Indonesian Exotic Herbs Festival will also be held in Bali on May 20-27 in the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center. It highlights the wide variety of herbs that are often used in traditional medicine in Indonesia.


Buddha’s birthday, which is also called the Hari Raya Waisak or Vesak Day, is celebrated on the day of the first full moon of May. This year, it will be celebrated on May 17.
